Project Information

We believe every Sedalia story is worth painting!

As we face a historical anniversary and land transformation, there is a unique opportunity to pause, reflect, and document the stories that shape what Sedalia is today. Through participatory art, we’re inviting the Sedalia community to co-create a visual record—one that reflects our capacity to question, remember, and reimagine this place together.

What is Participatory Painting?

It’s a collaborative art process where local residents contribute stories, memories, or imagery to co-create a large-scale piece that reflects the layered history and evolving spirit of Sedalia.

Who’s it for?

Long-time residents, curious newcomers, youth, elders, artists, and organizations—anyone eager to connect through creativity and stories.

Why It Matters

In times when stories risk being lost or oversimplified, collective art allows us to hold complexity, uplift memory, and create something.

Help Us Envision a Storytelling Project for Sedalia

As the U.S. nears its 250th anniversary in 2026, and Colorado its 150th, we’re launching a community-based art project to celebrate the rich, layered stories of Sedalia—told, remembered, and passed on.

Before funding is secured and themes are finalized, we’re inviting a kickoff advisory committee meeting of individuals passionate about:

Local storytelling

Community connections
