Gel Plate Printing

Gel Plate Printing: Experimentation
Gel plate printing is playful, intuitive, and perfect for curious makers who love happy accidents. Using a soft gel plate and acrylic paint, you’ll build layered prints with textures, stencils, marks, and color blends—no press required. The magic really kicks in with magazine transfers: ink from glossy pages lifts onto your print, leaving behind ghostly images, unexpected typography, and rich visual texture.
This process invites experimentation—pull a print, peel a transfer, respond to what shows up, and keep going. Every layer adds depth and surprise, making each print a one-of-a-kind piece. Great for art journaling, mixed media, collage backgrounds, and standalone prints, gel plate printing is all about letting go, exploring materials, and discovering what happens when you play.
No two prints are ever the same—and that’s the point.
Sign-up for the collage class next week and bring your gel prints. The creative possibilities are endless. Create artwork for the Printmaking and Mixed Media gallery show in March. Call for entries coming soon!
